E2E: Behind The Scenes with Dean Atta

Published On 19 January, 2012 | By Mia Labelle | E2E

A couple of weeks ago spoken word artist, Dean Atta was barely known to many. Now his poetry has blown up, one in particular was inspired by the conviction of Stephen Lawrence murderers, called ‘I’m Nobody’s N*gger’. Last Saturday (14th Jan) E2E went down to the set of his video. Speaking to him he said that seeing the case on Panorama and that the last word said to Stephen Lawrence was the n-word was the drive for him to write this poem.

Dean updated his Facebook and Twitter with,

“Rappers, when you use the word ‘nigger’ remember that’s one of the last words Stephen Lawrence heard, so don’t tell me it’s a reclaimed word.”

Which then became the first line of his poem. Check out more about the day and some photo’s from the day after the jump…

Dean’s poem has touched so many artists, so much that they all wanted to be a part of SB.TV filming it.

On the day we met with various artists including the upcoming Clement Marfo, that will be appearing in the influential poet’s video. Below there are some behind the scenes photos, with some of the E2E team (myself Mia and Seun) and photographer Ashlii (@SoloConcepts).

It was amazing to see so many different artist come together to support Dean’s poem turning it into a short film.

Stay locked into E2E to see the behind scenes video and the full list of UK talent, that turned up to the shoot.
