The BBC reveals their the Sound of 2013 longlist.
The BBC have announced their predictive list of 25 up’n’coming artists expected to hit the big time across different genres next year. The Sound of 2013 longlist were chosen by a variety of ‘tastemakers’ that included radio DJs and producers, website editors, respected bloggers, magazines and newspaper critics. All were asked to name their favourite three new acts from any musical genre, who haven’t appeared in the UK Top 20 singles or albums charts. This year’s list include the likes of R&B crooner The Weekend, Arlissa (who has collaborated with Nas), all-female post-punk rock band Savages and only one rapper – Angel Haze. The winner and top five will be unveiled on January 4th. In the past this has included the likes of US rapper 50 Cent (2003), Adele (2008), Jessie J (2011) and last year soul singer Michael Kiwanuka.
