Aaliyah - Quit Hatin & Girlfriends

Earlier this week, January 16th would have marked Aaliyah’s 34th birthday, to celebrate that two tracks from her forthcoming posthumous album leaked. Though to great excitement from Baby-girl’s fans, the songs ‘Quit Hatin’ and ‘Girlfriends’ are apparently incomplete and not ready for the listeners ears!

Blackground Records, the label behind all Aaliyah’s albums, stopped the rumors of the tracks with an official statement:

The track ‘Quit Hatin’ by Aaliyah was leaked without authorization from Blackground Records as the track is an incomplete recording from past studio sessions…We will release it through a formal announcement. We appreciate the enthusiasm from devoted fans of Aaliyah and the constant celebration of her life and music that has transcended to a new generation of music lovers.

Produced by Knotch, the dreamy ballad which features smooth vocals from the late songstress, samples Aaliyah’s ‘Come Over’ that featured Tank. It also samples A$AP Rocky’s ‘F**king Problems’.

Meanwhile, ‘Girlfriends’ featuring rapper Yaushameen Michael (who featured on Timbaland’s ‘Put Em On’) has a hip-hop Missy-esque vibe to it.

The controversy surrounding Drake making Liyah’s posthumous album may have calmed down but the leakage of these two tracks may re-spark the argument. Listen to ‘Quit Hatin’ and ‘Girlfriends’ below.
