E2E music feature writer Lydia brings back another old school jam, for Throwback Thursday.

The Fugees - Ready or Not

What’s good guys? I’m back again with another old school banger, and I know you’re gonna be able to get down with this one. This week’s choice is the Fugees ‘Ready or Not’, taken from the timeless classic The Score.

I remember this album being one of the first albums my sister and I owned, with tracks such as ‘Fu-Gee-La’, ‘How Many Mics’ and of course ‘Killing Me Softly’ teaching us exactly what Hip Hop was about.

The rest is history really, as it is without a doubt that the love I have for Hip Hop stems from many of the Fugees early releases. Personally, it is on this track that Lauryn Hill shows us exactly what she is about. The vocals on the hook are second to none, and her flow on the penultimate verse proves that she is the best female emcee – alive or dead. Can’t nobody do it like Ms. Hill! I dare you to challenge me on that, bruh!

I am a 21 year old writer and university student. I specialise in wrting non-fiction as well as poetry. I live and breathe music - Hip Hop and R&B/Soul to be exact. I'm also a lover of Literature and Black Studies. I love travelling as well, and my dream is to live in New York as it is my favourite place (right after my hometown, London). I also volunteer in my spare time, working with and mentoring sixth form students as they put their hands to making a change in their local communities. There's nothing better than seeing the youth from my area making changes for the next generation to enjoy - and it is an honour to help make that happen.
