In 2013 Endz2Endz was invited to Lewisham and Southwark College, to work with students as part of their BTEC National Diploma in Creative Media. We focused on film making and created a project exploring communities titled, “What does community mean to you?”
Enthusiasm filled the classroom as creative ideas bounced of each other; the young people decided they wanted to venture into their local communities to highligh the positive side to life in an urban area, a view that is rarely shown in the media.
Taking to the streets with clipboards, cameras and microphones the students interviewed positive community role models, from inspiring young people, local volunteers to community leaders; they gave a voice to the overlooked local ‘heroes’ that do such great work.
The students learned a variety of skills, interviewing, digital and technical skills which teamed with newly found confidence, that resulted in finished films with a stunning reflection of the community around them; it gave the students a platform to shine and it also gave them something to add to their CV and university personal statements.
Three young people that we worked with have since confirmed that Endz2Endz influenced their decision to apply for university courses in digital media; they used the project we delivered to provide examples of their suitability for the competitive courses they enrolled on. Endz2Endz is extremely proud to be a part of their journeys!
