Willow Smith Samples Radiohead’s ‘Codex’ on melancholy track, ‘Sugar and Spice’.
It’s been a while since Jada and Will’s daughter Willow Smith put out some music, but she’s back, with a deep difference. The youngster who sung about whipping her hair and not letting “haters keep [her] off [her] grind” has changed her tune!
The 12-year-old singer unleashed a brand new track entitled ‘Sugar And Spice’ yesterday via her SoundCloud, under the name Arbre Mort. The track title itself fits the bubbly Willow we thought we knew, but once you translate her new pseudonym (French for “dead tree”) and play the track you’ll find that she has become a weeping willow!
The emo-esque track is frightfully brilliant. Sampling Radiohead’s downtempo King of Limbs ballad, ‘Codex’; Willow showcases her song writing ability and new-found, but depressed maturity. Slightly resembling Rihanna’s ‘Russian Roulette’ in style she croons, “I tried to be sugar and spice/but I’m melancholy and can’t do anything right.”
