Review: Franklyn Music – Just Being Frank 2
E2E music feature writer Lydia reviews Franklyn Music’s latest mixtape,”Just Being Frank 2″.
He’s more than a rapper, or an MC. He is a wordsmith – and a damned good one, at that. Since the releases of his previous mixtapes Just Being Frank and The Remixtape, Franklyn has managed to keep the buzz and hype around his name well and truly alive through the release of online videos and freestyles. But soon it was time for the main event.
Just Being Frank 2 is even more “frank” than the first. Commenting on issues from youth and promiscuity, to love and art, he takes us on a journey of ups and downs – ups and downs in which we can all relate. When asked about the message of the mixtape, Franklyn said, “the whole concept of the project is to just be honest in one’s every day life and to be honest in one’s art” and also that “the true artist depicts stories and provokes emotion through his art based on events in his own life.”
On the track ‘Van Gogh’, Franklyn pays tribute to visual art, reflecting just this. Franklyn proves that given any subject and beat, he can make a hard-hitting tune to remember. This can also be seen in ‘Love Song’, where Franklyn rides the beat effortlessly – a vibe so smooth it will have ladies thinking this ‘love song’ is about them!
Franklyn is currently working with a few different producers, in the hopes of diversifying his sound for his next project. He is also helping to head the development of a creative collective by the name of ‘Anomaly’, – consisting of the best young artists, videographers, photographers, graphic designers and marketing consultants all with the same vision of generating excellence through art.
