Germany have won the world cup after beating Argentina 1-0 to after extra time.
It was an eventful night, we really didn’t know who was going to win as both teams had played fantastic in this tournament, worth every minute.
With Lionel Messi ready and prepared to win his 1st world cup up against a dominant German side, knocking out the hosts and causing embarrassment to teams. This match was one not to miss.
Tens of thousands of Argentinians had flooded Rio hoping to see Messi inspire his team to their third World Cup win.
When the game kicked off, Higuaín shot wide from a tight angle early on and Messi used his trickery to prise open the Germany defense, but Bastian Schweinsteiger put in a block. Miroslav Klose came agonisingly close to heading home Philipp Lahm’s cross at the other end. Higiuan thought he had put Argentina in front but he was ruled offside. Then the first half came to an end.
Argentina had many chances and would be kicking themselves because they didn’t take them as Messi’s shot was cleared of the line by Jérôme Boateng.
Benedikt Höwedes hit the upright with a close-range header from Kroos’ corner.
Chances were given and given until it hit 90 minutes and it went to extra time, there had to be a winner.
The moment that marked history was in the 113th minute when André Schürrle raced down the left past three Argentinians and crossed for Götze, who cushioned the ball on his chest before sweeping a volley past Romero from close range.
In the end Germany were ontop of the world and Argentinian hearts were crushed. As Germany won their 4th World Cup.
