Last night Brazil opened their World Cup 2014 account with a 3-1 win over Croatia.
It was a hot night in Brazil, as the hosts took on Croatia. Croatia seemed to be the underdogs in this match as the Brazilian squad face a Croatian team who have only qualified for the world cup 4 times.
All of that changed when Croatia went ahead in the 11th minute when Brazil left-back Marcelo Vieira scored an own goal giving Croatia the lead. But as it was early in the game the Brazilians didn’t sit back they looked to equalise, with chances falling to Oscar but Croatia’s goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa kept Brazil from equalising.
It wasn’t long before Brazil managed to find the breakthrough when Neymar drove a shot which deflected in off the post.
Croatia now where really under pressure as Brazil were trying to find their second goal but the ball wasn’t going in the back of the net.
Then a very crucial part of the game came when Fred was fouled by Dejan Lovren and Brazil were given a penalty.
Neymar stepped up and slotted home to give Brazil the lead.
Then 1 minute into stoppage time Oscar rips through the Croatian team down the middle and hits the ball into the bottom corner to give Brazil a great opening first day at the World Cup 2014 and a 3-1 lead against Croatia at full time.
Above all it was an all round and entertaining performance from both Brazil and Croatia, showing us that the world cup is going to be a very exciting tournament.
